Error while creating a PDF from a Publisher File

I was trying to convert a newsletter in Publisher format to PDF as I have done in the past, albeit not with my Windows XP box or the new version of Adobe Acrobat (7.0) and I received the following error:

%%[ ProductName: Distiller ]%%
%%[ Error: invalidfont; OffendingCommand: show ]%%

Stack:
(')

%%[ Flushing: rest of job (to end-of-file) will be ignored ]%%
%%[ Warning: PostScript error. No PDF file produced. ] %%

The file was created with Publisher 2000 on Windows 2000 SP4 and when I went to convert it to PDF by first opening Publisher it mentions an invalid font: "tms rmn" and that is where I started looking first.

Now I found this little fix that mentions a registry entry and that did not help as the entries were already there.

I then found this article which mentions a Win.ini entry to fix issues. I tried that rebooted and the tried to conversion and it worked fine. I removed the fix so that I could recreate the problem and it did not appear strange.

My System Configuration

  • Windows XP SP2
  • Publisher 2000
  • Adobe Acrobat Professional 7.0.
